Home Sleep Studies
Convenient Overnight Sleep Apnoea Testing
EMedHx provides home-based sleep studies for occupational and general health assessments.
A home sleep study allows important information about breathing, oxygen levels and sleep patterns to be collected overnight while you sleep in your own home.
Our service is suitable for commercial drivers, heavy-vehicle operators, rail safety workers and patients who may be at risk of obstructive sleep apnoea.
Sleep Studies for Commercial Drivers and Rail Workers
Untreated obstructive sleep apnoea can contribute to poor-quality sleep, fatigue, reduced concentration and excessive daytime sleepiness. These symptoms may present a safety risk for people working in transport, driving and other safety-critical roles.
During a commercial driver or rail medical, the assessing practitioner may identify symptoms or risk factors that require further investigation.
A sleep study may be recommended where there are concerns such as:
- Loud or persistent snoring
- Witnessed pauses in breathing during sleep
- Excessive daytime tiredness or sleepiness
- Falling asleep or dozing inappropriately
- High blood pressure
- Elevated body mass index
- Increased neck circumference
- Previous sleepiness-related driving incidents
- An elevated sleep-apnoea screening result
- Other concerns identified by the assessing medical practitioner
Our Home Sleep Study Process
Initial Assessment
A medical practitioner reviews your medical history, symptoms and sleep-apnoea risk factors. Screening questionnaires may also be completed.
Equipment Fitting
Our trained clinical staff explain and fit the overnight sleep-monitoring equipment. Clear instructions are provided for using the device at home.
Overnight Study at Home
You wear the equipment while sleeping in your own bed and return the device to the clinic the following day.
Specialist Analysis
The recorded information is uploaded and reviewed by an appropriately qualified sleep specialist.
Results and Follow-Up
Once the specialist report has been received, a follow-up appointment is arranged to discuss the results and any recommended treatment or further assessment.
