Pre-Employment

EMedHx works with employers in relation to prospective employees for pre-employment assessment to determine whether the candidates are fit for their proposed role.

What will happen during the pre-employment examination?

The main component of the pre-employment examination includes a questionnaire about the candidates medical history, as well as other medical tests that may be required by the employer such as:

  • Drug and Alcohol screening
  • Functional Assessments
  • Audiometry
  • Lung Function test
  • Electrocardiograph (ECG)
  • Pathology and
  • Vaccinations

This is to ensure that the employee is fit for the required role.

A standard pre-employment includes, not limited to:

  • Height, weight, Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • Vision Tests (near, distance and colour)
  • Cardiovascular examination (heart check, blood pressure, pulse)
  • Doctor Musculoskeletal assessment
  • Examination for hernias and other abdominal abnormalities
  • Urinalysis for diabetes and disorders of the internal organs
  • Respiratory examination (chest sounds)

Other comprehensive pre-employment medical assessments may include not limited to:

Dr Meredith Blackmur

Medical Advisor

Dr Meredith has a special interest in occupation medicine and workplace rehabilitation. With a background in physiotherapy. She also performs a wide variety of pre-employment health assessments, including road traffic medicals for commercial drivers, Rail Worker Safety Assessments and Travel / Vaccination medicals.

Dr Sandeep Sunkaraneni

Medical Advisor

Dr Sandeep holds the qualification for Short Certificate in Occupational Medicine at Monash University (completed March 2020). His main aim is to provide excellent service to employers and workers, aiming for a swift resolution to injuries, and to provide excellent solutions for occupational health monitoring and work-related medical assessments. In addition, he is a nationally accredited health professional for Rail Medicals.

Dr Nik has been a GP for 20 years. He has a special interest in occupational medicine and workplace rehabilitation. Dr Nik performs a wide variety of occupational health assessments, including pre-employment medicals and is also an accredited health professional for rail medicals.

  • What is pre-employment assessment?

    A pre-employment assessment is a medical assessment in order to determine whether a candidate meets the medical and physical requirements for the role they are applying for. It is also to determine and identify any kind of potential work place limitations that may need addressing in the workplace before the candidate can commence.

  • Yes EMedHx can facilitate this for most employment groups

  • The main component of the examination will be

    • Completion of a questionnaire about the candidates medical history,
    • The candidate will then be seen by one of the Corporate Medical Practice Assistants who may require further job-specific functional capacity testing such as
    • Height, weight, Blood Pressure and eye testing which includes colour vision, and Urinalysis
    • other medical test as required by the employer I.e. Audiometry
    • the employee will then see a medical practitioner to complete the medical and finalise the assessment.
  • These assessments takes about a minimum of 30 minutes but may vary in length depending on job-specific requirements.

    Sometimes your assessment may involve going to more than one location and be delivered by our health partners.

  • Each candidate must bring a driver’s licence or any other photo identification. If the candidate wears spectacles, contact lenses or has hearing aids, they need to also bring them to the appointment.

  • Candidates should ensure that they wear comfortable non restrictive clothing on the day of their assessment as well as comfortable and appropriate footwear.

  • All candidates to arrive on time for their appointment.

    Bring appropriate ID, glasses and hearing aids

    Ensure you put aside enough time to complete the entire assessment.

    Please note :The time required will range from 30 minutes (minimum) to four hours for more extensive assessment.

  • EMedHx has a strict medical privacy policy with regards to collection and dissemination of personal medical information. Therefore, as these medicals have been booked and paid for by your perspective employer, copies of these medicals will not be provided to candidates unless approved by the employer.
